Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We’ve gathered honest answers here to the questions almost every Last Frontier newcomer asks: what kind of game this is, how to get in, what it runs on, what ECO and the kits are, and whether there are wipes. Where the project’s policy isn’t fixed yet, we say so outright — “to be confirmed” — instead of making things up.

So what is this game, exactly?

Last Frontier is a post-apocalyptic MMORPG built on the FOnline engine, played from a top-down (isometric 2D) view. It’s set in a world that survived nuclear catastrophe: as the nations collapsed, so did the old monetary system — Soviet rubles, dollars, and pounds were good only “for getting a small campfire going,” and over time trade in the region was rebuilt around crudely minted gold coins.

This is a multiplayer survival world where what matters isn’t just the numbers on your character sheet, but their current condition, gear, and the player’s decisions. The world’s main pressure is the cold: hypothermia and frostbite are dangerous even without any direct combat.

What stage is the project at right now?

The game is in closed beta testing (CBT). This is an early version: many mechanics appear in their first iterations, there’s temporary and unfinished content, and the developers regularly make balance changes. So come in with the mindset of “helping make the game better” rather than “seeing the finished product” — testers’ opinions really are taken into account here.

What can I play on?

Right now the officially supported platform is PC on Windows (64-bit, Windows 7 and newer). Versions for Linux, Mac, Android, iOS, and the web browser are still planned, not yet available to players.

How old do I need to be?

The project is intended for an adult audience: applications are considered from candidates over 18 years old.

How do I get into the test?

There are two ways:

  • Through an application. Send an email to alpha@lastfrontier.ru and include: your name or nickname; your age; how much free time you have per day / how many free days per week. You can also mention any past experience taking part in game tests, but that’s no longer the main selection criterion. New participants are added in waves, roughly once every few weeks, when the version is updated.
  • Fast access. If you don’t want to wait for a wave, use the Development Support Shop: purchasing any Support Kit or ECO currency pack grants guaranteed access within 24 hours.

If you don’t hear back on your application for a while, drop by the project’s Discord server and message the developers (Enclave#3584).

What are ECO and the kits?

ECO is a currency you can buy in packs at the Development Support Shop; Support Kits are sold alongside it. Purchasing any of them supports development and, at the same time, unlocks the guaranteed 24-hour access mentioned above. We don’t list specific prices, kit contents, or other monetization details here — that’s to be confirmed on the project’s side.

How do accounts and characters work?

An account ties several approaches to the game into a single story:

  • Active hero — the one you’re controlling right now and who goes out into the world.
  • Roster — the list of saved characters on the account. One is suited for cautious forays, another for combat, a third for crafting or trade.
  • Shared storage — an account-wide stash that syncs with the active hero; it’s a convenient way to move materials and consumables between characters and prepare for your next foray.

An important point: switching characters isn’t free healing and it doesn’t erase consequences. Each hero loads with their own state — level, experience, skills, injuries, and inventory. Switching is tied to a personal safe space: you can’t instantly change roles in a dangerous spot — first you have to get out of the situation and return to your prep area.

How are experience and levels earned?

Experience comes from various kinds of participation, not just combat: from individual dialog choices, completed tasks, gathering resources, and other actions where the game clearly marks the result. When you have enough experience for a new level, your hero levels up automatically, and the related achievements may be credited right away or on your next login.

Are there wipes?

Yes. During the testing stage, wipes (progress resets) do happen — this is directly confirmed by the project’s materials. We don’t promise an exact schedule or future policy: treat your current progress as temporary and take it in stride.

And what about hunger, transport, and player-to-player trade?

Hunger as a mechanic doesn’t work in the current version — the survival pressure comes specifically from the cold, so stock up on warmth, not on food “against hunger.” Transport does exist in the game: a car is tied to its vehicle keys, consumes fuel, and sets the pace for the whole party on the global map. Player-to-player trade is available too — it’s a direct barter between two characters standing next to each other: both sides see each other’s items and confirm the deal separately. And you can redistribute your stats by rolling back points right in the character window; for a full rebuild there’s a reset item.
